Makeup with a Sense of Humor

Kate Bush has a wry sense of humor. When fans get too personal with their questions, she has been known to keep them at arm's length with a carefully worded answer to what might be an inane or probing query. My favorite, since I tend toward the Dark Side, was given and answered in one of Kate's numerous fan magazines:

Q.: Why do you always move your eyes right and left in your videos? It is very pleasant to watch, but it intrigues me. What is the idea behind it?
A.: I have to watch out for any demons that might be creeping up on me and video shoots attract so many of them that I have to keep an extra eye out in case they trip me up while we're going for a take. You've seen what happens to Faith Brown because she doesn't look out for them.

A wonderful sense of irony set to deflect the too noisy.

One quote, though, intrigued me:

Q.: What kind of make-up do you use?
A.: I don't bother any more, I use Latex!

While doing research on Dark Fashions for Dracula: A Guide to Dark Beings, I ran across four photos. They're not of Kate, but they fit with the sense of humor. And they bear a remarkable likeness.

The Muse has a right to her privacy and to her life. I leave her alone. For those of you who write and ask for Kate's e-mail address -- stop it. Even if I had it, I wouldn't give it to you.
